3D Mailbox - The End of Email As We Know It, Or Just The End?

Posted by Paul Bradish on July 18th, 2007

note: I’m not one to normally bash or criticize software but this is one that I just couldn’t pass up.

Coming Soon to a PC (no Macs) near you is quite possibly the worst application to ever grace the Windows platform - 3d Mailbox.

TechCrunch writes: “Do you find dealing with email boring? Would your day be brighter if your email was rendered as characters in a SecondLife style universe, complete with spam eating sharks? Were you dropped on your head as a child? Introducing 3D Mailbox.”

Crunchgear says: “I was so disgusted that I couldn’t write anymore”.

and last but not least, Michael Parson states: “The worst software application I have ever seen…a waste of valuable processing power”.

Yes, this is… actually real. Take a look for yourself:

Granted, this sort of application probably isn’t for the business crowd. Most likely it is aimed at teens and tweens, but I don’t think even they could bare to stand a piece of software this absurd for more than a couple of minutes.

Now, not only will spam infest your mailbox, it will slow down your computer as well because it has to render them as overweight human polygons laying on the beach and swimming around in the ocean. Sounds great, really.

What Movie Quotes Motivate You?

Posted by Paul Bradish on July 16th, 2007

Shoemoney posted an article about movies and speeches that motivate him.

This got me thinking about movies and specific clips that motivate me to keep pushing forward with my businesses, web projects, and life in general.

I have two of my favorite clips embedded into this post. If anyone has others that Shoe and I may have missed, feel free to post links to them in the comments section below and I will add them to this post.

Clip #1 - Rocky Balboa’s speech to his son.

Clip #2 - Gordon Gecko in Wall Street, greed is good.

Google’s New Unavailable After Meta Tag

Posted by Paul Bradish on July 13th, 2007

Google Inc.

Ms. Whalen reports from Search Engine Marketing New England that Dan Crow, director of crawl systems at Google, gave feedback on a number of issues; but most importantly plans for a new “unavailable_after” meta tag that will identify time-sensitive content. This sounds like it might be a useful tag in the ecommerce arena for contests and coupons which expire by a certain date.

Google is coming out with a new tag called “unavailable_after” which will allow people to tell Google when a particular page will no longer be available for crawling. For instance, if you have a special offer on your site that expires on a particular date, you might want to use the unavailable_after tag to let Google know when to stop indexing it. Or perhaps you write articles that are free for a particular amount of time, but then get moved to a paid-subscription area of your site.

You can read the whole article here.
