Earlier in the week, I was watching some television late at night and came across a show called “How to Make Millions” on The Learning Channel. It seemed to be dedicated towards Internet Business and had a slew of successful internet entrepreneurs giving commentary throughout the show.
This particular episode (is there more than one?) featured Henry and Zach, who were two first time web entrepreneurs who believe they’ve got the next million dollar idea: an internet Action Sports Contest. Whether I agreed with them on their Web 2.0 idea or not, this show certainly caught my attention.
The episode summary read: “Track each critical business decision as they attempt to create and launch their first website”. The show kept true to the summary as we were able to watch the site take off from the early stages of development to a seemingly semi-successful launch.
Though they made it to launch, and their website appears to be functional, the two entrepreneurs made many errors. I don’t want to give too much away but thanks to one team member’s cockiness towards venture capitalists and the other’s inability to speak up they missed out on prime funding. They also made critical errors in business planning, market research, and securing a second source of income while they were blowing their life savings on a website that may or may not succeed.
In the end, everything turns out alright for our duo because after all, it is television. That being said, the show itself was very well made and I think all aspiring internet entrepreneurs should watch it if possible and if anything - learn from these two’s mistakes.

Just because I’m older doesn’t mean that I always have to act like it.
I’ve decided after much contemplation that today I deserve a half day of work since it my Birthday, and that only comes around once per year. I’ve been working 10 hour days for the longest time, so It’s nice to take a step back every so often. If you’ve never done, I highly recommend it.
I’m now 23 years old and am starting to feel like an old timer as far as the internet world is concerned. Every where I turn I notice young, teenage entrepreneurs full of hope, ambition, and dollar signs in their eyes. Naive? Usually, but who says that is always a bad thing. These kids are starting out young and it’s a pleasure to watch this new generation of web gurus take shape.
22 was a great year for me. I had the opportunity to work for a fortune 500 company, rack up three more computer certifications, as well as start and sell my first internet business. This will be an even bigger year as I have created two new internet businesses, started work on my Ecommerce book, and am purchasing my first home with Danielle. I’ve also met some great business contacts, and have learned so much from them (one in particular), *cough* Danny R. *cough*, in such a short time and am very grateful for that.
I’m also very satisfied with my birthday gifts! Beyond the housewarming money, I’ve received a copy of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon for the Nintendo Wii. I can’t wait to take it out of the wrapper. I hear that it has 63 fighters and a massive amount of unlockables to keep me busy for awhile.
Anyhow, no new news or articles today. I am taking a day off :).

Today’s blog post refers to an amazing thread by Brett Tabke over at Webmaster World. In this thread from 2003 Brett writes about the steps he takes within the first 12 months of launching a new website, and what makes it successful. You can view his thread here.
Here is a snippet:
“In another post Google as a Black Box Giacomo proposed that we talk too much theory and not enough application of it. So, lets skip the theory and get to what I know works from time proven methods on Google. I know the following system works 100% of the time with Google to attain rankings across a wide range of keywords. This is what I do with clients to build a successful site and has worked every time. The level of success will depend largely on the subject matter, it’s potential audience, and it’s level of competition on the net.
The following will build a successful site in 1 years time via Google alone. It can be done faster if you are a real go getter, or everyones favorite a self starter.”
Here is my favorite tip:
“Z) Build one page of quality content per day.
Starting to see a theme here? Google loves content, lots of quality content. Broad based over a wide range of keywords. At the end of a years time, you should have around 400 pages of content. That will get you good placement under a wide range of keywords, generate recip links, and overall position your site to stand on it’s own two feet.”
Even though this thread is over four years old, nearly all of it still applies today. This specific thread has probably made more internet millionaires (in my opinion), than any other on the internet.
